Cheltenham Festival 2025
The Cheltenham Festival is one of the most prestigious events in the British horse racing calendar, taking place annually in March at Cheltenham Racecourse in Gloucestershire, England. It spans four days and features top-class National Hunt racing, including several Grade 1 races. The highlight is the Cheltenham Gold Cup, held on the final day, which is widely regarded as the most important steeplechase in the UK.
The festival draws over 250,000 spectators across its four days and offers total prize money exceeding £4.8 million. It includes iconic races such as the Champion Hurdle, Queen Mother Champion Chase, and Stayers’ Hurdle. Horses, jockeys, and trainers from the UK and Ireland compete fiercely, making the event a central battleground in the long-standing racing rivalry between the two nations.
Traditionally starting on a Tuesday and ending on a Friday, the Cheltenham Festival also coincides with St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, attracting large numbers of Irish fans. It has a major economic impact on the local area, generating millions in tourism revenue. The famous Cheltenham roar, a loud cheer from the crowd at the start of the first race, signals the beginning of the festival each year.
