The Turnbull Stakes is the opening fixture at the Spring Racing Carnival in Flemington, a 2000m race and is a great setup and indication of form going into the spring calendar. Green Moon, a winner in 2012 went ont to capture the Melbourne cup, as did Maykbe Diva in 2005. Another major race at Flemington is the Newmarket Handicap, 24 horses jockeying for position in the initial 400m straight leaving a finale that is always one of the most exciting in the Aussie race calendar. Caulfield, of course; is another fantastic racecourse in Australia, featuring the Caulfield Guineas at 1600m while Moonee Valley features the WS Cox Plate, 2040m and open to all types of thoroughbred, although only the absolute best will feature in the final 14 from Aus and NZ.
